The Goals of a Great Elevator Speech

Elevator Speech Goals

The Goals of a Great Elevator Speech

A great Elevator Speech has several key goals, each designed to make a strong and lasting impression in a short amount of time. Here’s what you should aim to achieve:

1. Capture Attention

  • Engage Immediately: Your Elevator Speech should quickly grab the listener’s attention. Whether through a compelling hook, an intriguing question, or a bold statement, the goal is to make the person want to hear more.

2. Clearly Communicate Your Value

  • Explain Who You Are: In just a few sentences, make it clear who you are, what you do, and what makes you unique. The goal is to succinctly convey your identity and the value you bring to the table.

  • Highlight Your Unique Selling Proposition (USP): Emphasize what sets you apart from others in your field. This could be a specific skill, experience, or approach that makes you unique.

3. Establish Credibility

  • Showcase Your Expertise: Briefly mention your relevant experience, achievements, or qualifications to build credibility. The goal is to give the listener confidence in your abilities so they might want to hire or refer you.

4. Create Interest

  • Generate Curiosity: Your speech should pique the listener’s interest and make them want to learn more about you or your ideas. The goal is to leave them with a positive impression and a desire for further conversation.

5. Be Memorable

  • Stand Out: Use clear, concise, and impactful language that makes you and your message memorable. The goal is for the listener to remember you long after the conversation ends.

6. Dis-Qualify

  • Don't Spend Major Time on Minor Prospects: Everyone is not a prospect for what you offer. You are not going to purchase or refer everything offered to you. Dis-qualifying is a major goal of an Elevator Speech.

7. Prompt a Follow-Up

  • Call to Action: End with a call to action, whether it’s setting up a meeting, exchanging contact information, or simply continuing the conversation later. The goal is to establish the next step in building a relationship, collaboration, or referral.

Achieve these goals with your Elevator Speech and it will be absolutely, positively - NO SWEAT!
