The Ultimate Goal of All Communication:
Written, Spoken or Visual, is that the audience, as quickly as possible, – “Gets It!”
If they don’t understand your message, good communication can’t go much further.
The audience may not agree with everything you said.
They may not agree with anything you said.
But if they “Get It!”, they understood your message and can form an opinion.
At that point, a meaningful discussion can take place.
Some points to remember to help them “Get It!”
- Pronounce words correctly and distinctly. No ‘Buzz Words’;i.e. specific jargon not familiar to everyone in the audience.
- People don’t like to feel ‘Not OK’. Using too much verbiage that has to be sliced and diced to be deciphered will quickly lose an audience’s attention.
- Repeat – Repeat – Repeat
- This is one of the ways we learn.
- Do something unusual.
- A prop, acting out a specific part of your message, or getting audience participation can be be one of the differentiators for helping the your crowd

- Constantly, ‘take the pulse’ of your audience by looking at the facial expressions and body language.
- If people looked bored, confused, or seem inattentive – adjust your delivery and message as needed.

This site is really looking great Fred — and I love the video. The quick tip of the day stuff is awesome!
I like what you meant about taking the pulse of your audience as you make your presentation. You can learn a lot about what your audience is thinking by examining their facial expressions and body movement.
If the natives get restless, change things up a bit to get them re-engaged.
