Fred Miller, NO SWEAT Public Speaking!
Let’s talk about nonverbal communication. Specifically, VOCAL CUES.
VOCAL CUES are all aspects of words including silence.
Let’s look at some of those.
That’s the extent to which we articulate words clearly and distinctly.
Example: It’s “Pronunciation” not “Pronounciation.”
It’s the way we say words and it’s based upon our upbringing and the part of the country we live in.
It might be a Southern accent or maybe a Boston accent
That’s the weight or stress we place on a word to indicate its importance in a sentence.
Example: “Speaking opportunities are business, career, and leadership opportunities!”

That’s really tough! It’s being silent. I’m the speaker! Shouldn’t I be speaking?
But pausing can be super, super powerful!
The audience must hear you to GET IT! Speak to the back of the room.
A great technique to get people’s attention is to LOWER YOUR VOICE. Lower the volume.
