How to Become a Really Good Presenter with Presentation Coaching!

Updated: Dec 18, 2023

LISTEN!

Effective communication is a valuable skill in both our personal and professional lives. Prestentation Coaching helps achieve this.

Whether you're delivering a presentation, engaging in a conversation, or addressing a large audience, the ability to speak confidently and persuasively is a key asset. Becoming a really good speaker is a goal that many aspire to achieve. It's a skill that can be developed over time with practice and dedication.

Here are tips to help you become a really good speaker and enhance your communication abilities.
  • Know Your Audience:

    • One of the fundamental principles of effective communication is understanding your audience. Before you speak, take time to research and consider the needs, interests, and expectations of your audience. Customizing your message to your listeners will make it more relevant and engaging.

  • Organize Your Thoughts:

    • Good speakers are organized speakers. Structure your speech or presentation in a logical and coherent manner. Start with a clear introduction, followed by the main points, and conclude with a summary or call to action. Use transitions to guide your audience through your content smoothly.

  • Practice, Practice, Practice:

    • Practice is key to becoming a good speaker. Rehearse your speech multiple times. Do this in front of a mirror, with a trusted friend, and/or through video recordings. Practice helps you refine your delivery, gain confidence, and identify areas for improvement.

    • For TEDTalk speakers I’ve coached the rule of thumb for practice is: "One hour of preparation for every minute of presentation."

  • Work on Your Voice:

    • Your voice is your primary tool as a speaker. Pay attention to your tone, pitch, volume, and pace.

  • Master Nonverbal Communication:

    • Nonverbal communication, including body language, facial expressions, and gestures, surpasses verbal communication. People believe what they see.

    • Be mindful your nonverbal cues are in sync with your words and intentions.

  • Control Nervousness:

    • Many people feel nervous before speaking in public. Take that nervous energy and put it into your presentation. A presentation without energy is B-o-r-i-n-g.

  • Use Visual Aids Wisely:

    • If your presentation involves visual aids, such as slides or props, use them to enhance your message, not distract from it. Keep visuals simple. Use few bullet points because no come to read your presentation.

  • Engage Your Audience:

    • An engaged audience is more likely to remember your message. Encourage interaction through questions, anecdotes, or open-ended statements.

Becoming a really good speaker is a journey that requires dedication and practice. By understanding your audience, organizing your thoughts, practicing, working on your voice and nonverbal communication, controlling nervousness, using visual aids wisely, engaging your audience, you can develop the skills needed to communicate effectively and leave a lasting impact.

Utilize these tips and I guarantee your presentations will be absolutely, positively - NO SWEAT!
