This should be one you can deliver to target audiences. Whatever the topic, develop one that will appeal to as many individuals as possible. Doing this will expand your possible “Speaking Opportunities.”
One result of this “Signature Presentation” will be a Master Slide Deck, an ever growing and evolving group of slides.
Slides, if used correctly, are a great way to help people GET IT! This is because about sixty-five percent of us are Visual Learners. We learn by seeing. Using slides with great images and video can enhance presentations. (For specifics on designing those slides, go HERE.)
“The Learning is in the Doing!”
As you research, write, and rewrite your presentation you’ll be amazed at what you didn’t know about your topic. This is typical and should not cause concern. It should be welcomed because in most fields of expertise, “The more you know, the more you don’t know.”
I continually update and tweak my presentations. I find better images, insert new slides, rearrange the deck, and much more.
Your deck will consist of Modules, groups of slides specific to one topic of your presentation. Like the rest of your deck, these will grow over time.
My Master Deck on Public Speaking and Presentation Skills has three main “Modules”.
- The Components, Parts, and Elements of a Presentation.
- Bonus Tips to Improve Presentations.
- The Fear of Public Speaking and Nuggets to lessen it.
Each module, and the accompanying slides, can stand on its own as a presentation. The slides within each module can be deleted or customized as needed.
Within those modules, I can pull out mini-presentations. For instance, I have quite a few slides about the ‘Composition of Slides’ under the “Bonus Tips” module. That topic is good for a mini-presentation.
When new “Speaking Opportunities” present themselves, composing a presentation for those audiences will be less daunting because of those modules within the master deck. Many future presentations will have common themes where modules in your master deck can be inserted.
Most of my presentations, be it one on Presentation Skills or Delivering an Elevator Speech, talk about the “Fear of Public Speaking” and “Nuggets to Lessen that Fear.” I have modules in my master deck that address those issues. I can adjust those modules by arranging, deleting, and customizing, based on the audience and time restraints. I don’t have to reinvent the presentation.
Take this advice for developing a Master Deck with meaningful modules and your next presentation will be absolutely, positively – NO SWEAT!
